Postgraduate Education

Taishan Medical University is a general Provincial higher education institution, enjoying an independent administration ever since 1974 with the original name of Loude Campus of Shandong Medical University, and later was named Taishan Medical University approved by the state council in 1981. The postgraduates’ education in the university has experienced a gradual enlargement and improvement since 1998. In 1998, approved by the academic degrees committee of the state council, it became a master’s degree authorization unit and began to recruit graduate students. In 2004, it was authorized to accept the application for master’s degree from the working staff with equivalent educational level and began to enroll and train the students. In 2008 it obtained the permission to launch the postgraduates’ education in the major of clinical medicine. In 2010, it is granted the diploma award of master’s degree of first level disciplines including basic medicine, clinical medicine, pharmacology, and nursing.

At present, there are 35 disciplines with the authority to award master’s degree in directory including pathology and pathophysiology, immunology, imaging and nuclear medicine, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, pharmacology, nursing, epidemiology and health statistics, neurobiology, general medicine, and clinical pathology. In addition, there are 4 disciplines with the authority to award master’s degree out of directory including medical physiology, medicine, biochemistry and molecular biology, clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical engineering. The team of faculty for graduates’ education consists of over 600 teaching staff, of whom teachers with doctor’s degree account for more than 46%. The university has a total enrollment of over 600 full-time postgraduates and over 1,500 working staff with equivalent educational level on campus.
